Jane Learns the Hula

This image isn't new but I wanted to post something so folks didn't think I'd dropped off the planet. I hope to get back in the groove soon. Happy New Year!

"The last flower child"

Pin The Tail On The Donkey

C is for Collage

Low Voice - 1967

This ancient collage was one of the first I ever made at art school in Manchester in 1967. It seems quite appropriate for this latest theme of playtime, games and toys etc. I used to collect old childrens books for the illustrations at a place called Shude Hill, where they had a book market in the street. Indeed, it was the start of many years of collecting old books for collage material.

"He spoke of his movie career"

"how did she do that"

Everything I post here will be strictly cut and paste(though I also do digital),I use surgical scissors and glue stick on matboard with a satin glaze over the finished collage.

I live in Maryland and my interest in collage goes back years. I really got back into doing art at age 50 when I switched to part time work. My friends always loved what I did with cut and paste. I have taken quite a few classes in various styles of art that interested me,but I still feel collage is natural not learned. Take me into the New Year with more and more collage. I love this site already, from all I have seen. I am inspired already to get back to paper collage.

Giant Arctic Snow Duck

Snow Blows...

When I was a kid snow was fun because it meant school was cancelled and playing outdoors. Now it means shovelling, driving in hazardous conditions and unreal heating bills. Let It Snow, sure, but only up in the mountains for the skiers!

Baby, it's Cold Outside

Theme of the Week - Let it Snow

It's been so long since I have seen snow that I have forgotten what it looks like. Refresh my memory with winter wonderlands, snowmen, snowball fights, etc.

Sorry for the long absence. I've really missed everyone and everything. The last themes have been great, and the art and comments have been fabulous. I'm so glad to be back.

I'm a full time fine artist - mixed media and painting. I live in San Diego county, (southern) California. I received my fine art degree from San Diego State University in 1977. At that time and to this day, I have a very sharp interest and influence by the pop artists and 20th century American Contemporary Art. I was most deeply influenced by the Ashcan school, where I find beauty in common sometimes banal realities. These are mostly reflected in my paintings.

This influence comes into play with my collages in that I will use materials and images that in popular terms seem to bear no great artist meaning; but by my choice of juxtaposition, I hope to create an interesting meaning through relationships. For example, to me, a succulent aloe vera plant and the letter "y" have a lot in common.
