Magnifly

The postcard is from an estate sale find from Saturday. The die cut is from a bag of scraps I got at an antique shop and the rest are leftover scraps.

Microscopic Mind

I used 19th century clippings for the head and microscope which I found at the sale of an eccentric paper collector who had a warehouse full of old ephemera, books and magazines. A kindred soul. The frame is from an old greeting card and the rest are leftover scraps.

Extra leftovers

I used Angelica's tried & true method of random selection for top scene-- grabbed a nearby book, a magzine off the floor and a postcard from the shoebox under my desk without looking, and used an image from whichever page I opened up to. The words came from the reverse side of the same magazine page. (Ignore the second scene. It's a repeat I clicked on by mistake then couldn't figure out how to delete it. It WAS done with leftover scraps found on my desk at the time, though, so I guess it could fit here as well)

Bench Marks

Another found postcard from a car boot sale. Additions of girl from ABC Dictionary and starlet from Encyclopedia of Film.

Escape from the rat race

I used three sources of paper to make this collage. The blue and red pieces were deconstructed from a booklet of musical notes from 1943 which I found recently in a huge vintage shop in Norway (I'm not very good at currency conversions so I probably paid thousands of dollars for this). The high rise buildings are from a second-hand book on architecture which I got for next to nothing a couple of weeks ago at a mega book sale in Sydney where I was scolded by some random guy for arriving 3 hours after the sale started (this was the first day of the sale and it went on for four more days). The starry sky image inside the boat is from a 1937 volume on navigation which I found a while ago at a Sydney market. The guy who sold it to me looked like a hit man (haggling wasn't an option).

found

I found all of this stuff on the street today.

Fragments Framed

Wow, perfect topic! I had just started a whole series of "found scraps" collages on dictionary pages,

3 on a match

The postcard was found in a bagfull at a yard sale (because we can never have too many, right?) and the other elements came from cleaning out Gram's house.

Chinese/Junk

The background is from a credit card junkmail ad, the words are part of a Swisher Sweets cigar packet which was discarded on the sidewalk, and the food is from the label used in last night's dinner.

Found Seeds & Weeds

Found this in an old souvenir mag. from 1937 celebrating the coronation of King George 6th ( my father coincidentally was in the guard of honour ). The seeds were from the wrapping inside a wooden bird feeder we have hanging in the garden.

Found Heads

Not much of a story attached to this one. The photo was found at a car boot sale some weeks back with a pile of others - all swaps this lady had in her family archive. I could not understand why none of the other members of the family didn't seem to want them? Anyway, the heads have been changed to protect the identities of the innocent victims of this collage. Found in a big book of american vintage graphics called Superstock I purchased at another car boot or charity shop - I really can't remember. It's very useful for themes such as this where I'm searching for faces or heads etc.
