The ads were hinting that if she douched afterwards with Lysol she wouldn't get pregnant...which, by the way, didn't work as a birth control...it was a myth that gave birth to a lot of squeaky clean children. :)

They (advertisers) really terrorized women in older mags, especially young brides. They had to smell good, cook well, and keep a clean house, or else!
