All My Own Work

The original page from a 60's Good Housekeeping magazine.

Taking the "All My Own Work" phrase to it's logical conclusion - making "art" from bits of paper!

Take Off!

This was a picture on a frame I bought from a charity shop. I disgarded this for a while and then realised it might make a good rocket or a giraffe?

Anyway, so I abandoned the giraffe idea which was probably a mistake seeing how the rocket turned out! It looks like a 6 year old might have made it but I present it here anyway to show you that I do have my off days!

Sucker Punch

I used an ad for a Hoover vacuum cleaner that was in a Fortune magazine.

The finished collage.

Director's Cut

Sheesh, backwards again... Original page is from a huge book of movie history (maybe the same one Michael used?), the 1978 page. Still took awhile to find a "good" page, but remake came together OK.

Robot

I cheated a little on this one as it's a double page spread but the machine I was after was on both pages. I knew I could find a machine that would turn into a robot quite easily and it was just a matter of finding the right one.

Here's the end result- a nice friendly green robot who is having fun making sparks!

I cut, therefore I am

This is the original page from a vintage magazine (Journal, I think). This collage was a lot of work but I was very happy that I managed to use just about every scrap of paper from this page. Even with one page of source material I still managed to make a terrible mess on the table - so this collage is a little bit autobiographical.

The finished collage.

Old Fish Cigarettes

This is the original page from a vintage issue of Life magazine. I had to photograph it as was too large to fit on my A4 scanner.

Here is the finished collage. A4 size.

The Formula for Creation

I really enjoy these challenging themes very much. They force me to move beyond my collage comfort zone. I hope I have time to do another one this week. I can't speak to the quality of the product but I had tons of fun putting it together.

!There you are... Caught in the middle of a foreign roadblock, while in possession of strange substances.

I couldn't upload this image yesterday for some reason, but here it is now.

Help!

This is the original page froman old childrens book.

Ive had this on my work table for a while wondering what to do with it so this seemed an ideal theme for it.

UnCovered

OK, so these are posted backwards-- the original is on the bottom. This is one of the toughest challenges we've had in a long time! Forget trying a random page; that wasn't working at all so I searched and searched for something with 2 disparate images on it, instead of just rearranging one picture. Not much luck there either. Turning an A into a U with no extra red to work with was a bit tricky also. Having said all that, I do believe I'll try to come up with another this week. You guys are doing a fabulous job with a hard theme!!

Happy Birthday Mummy!

This is the original page from the 60's ads book I told you about, which I have plundered recently a few times.

Sorry, but this is the end result! My evil twin side seems to be taking over this week!

Freaks

Here's my starting page , from a book about the cinema. This still from the classic Tod Browning film "Freaks" caught my eye. Well it would- would't it?!

So I tried to make it even freakier by adding body parts from the other film folks on the page. Hope nobody is offended by this! I apologise for my lapse in good taste!

Don't mess with the snow-woman

This page came out of an early 1950s Journal magazine. When I found it I knew that the snowman would have to be involved in the fencing duel but the snow-woman evolved later on the page when I was left with the unused woman.

This is the finished collage.

Joe Diamond, Neil's alcoholic brother that you probably never heard of.

this is what I started with, and where I ended, still not daring enough, will try again next week

Milk for Kitty

here is the page I started with and below it what I came up with, basically turned the curtains into milk, I hope to be much more daring with the next one!

Trip the Moonlight Fantastic

I started with this ad for an RCA television from a TIME magazine. It had lots of images to work with, but I immediately knew when I saw it that I would be focusing on the couple. I also wanted the TV legs to be human legs. They worked better for the lady than the man, so he got shoes.

The finished collage.

here we go!

"starting image"
OK, I decided, whatever page I opened up to, was the page I was going to collage... When I was a kid, me and my brother would play a game with a globe, we would spin it and wherever our finger landed and stopped it, was the place we would have to move when we grew up. I almost always landed in the ocean. That's how I feel with this image.

One Page Collage

Pick one page from a book or magazine that you find interesting. Using a blank sheet of paper (any color) as a base, make a collage using just the front of the sheet you picked. In other words, you can't use any images that are found on the back of the page. Use as little or as much of the page as you want.

Be sure to scan the image before you cut it up and show us both the uncut and finished collage.

I will try and post an example tomorrow in case this description is not clear.
