Theme of the week - CANDY

As I mentioned, no digital camera, so I had to put everything on the scanner. I'd say it took about an hour to leaf through the magazine & encyclopedia to find potential images that would suit the scene.


Then another hour to trim and glue.


I was pretty pleased with the number of images I added, some of which look like they really belong there.

This was just what I needed to get me to actually work on something. It's been a while. Had no idea what I was going to do, but thought it might involve either the spirograph, some polaroids, or the recyling of an old painting/collage I hate now.

Plus something from here:

Ended up painting over the painting and spirographing (is that a word?) on it a bit. Then got out a knitting-pattern book from the '50s for "almost teens."

I usually start a collage by flipping through my books and magazines until one image hits me. That image was a 1930's illustration of dancing ladies wearing underwear. I then found a stage scene. Stages are a recurring theme with me. I have a great fear of speaking in front of large crowds, so the thought of being onstage with a million eyes looking at me is a terrifying thought. With these two images, I then knew that the dancing ladies would end up doing some sort of act. I proceeded to pull other images that I thought would work, including a new maroon velvet paper I just purchased at my local art store.


It took me about 10 minutes to get to this point, but nothing is glued.


I thought the girls would be a bit more exciting if they had an extra set of legs, like a carnival sideshow act. The total working time was about an hour and a half.

Theme of the week - 3 STAGES OF A COLLAGE

This week's theme is going to be a bit different. In fact, there is no theme, so you can make whatever you want. The catch is that you have to show your collage as you are in the process of making it. Here are the three stages:

1. Photograph (or scan) your materials before you begin the collage. This includes the images that you will be using, but you can also show us your scissors, glue, work table, etc., if you want.

2. Show us your collage half-way through completing it.

3. Show the finished collage.

Don't post any of your work until you have all three stages completed and then you can post them all together as one entry (I can help out if you get stuck posting). I thought it would be fun to see everyone's working method. You can also tell us how long it took you to complete it, or any other notes describing your process. If you have any questions, email me.
