Low Voice - 1967

This ancient collage was one of the first I ever made at art school in Manchester in 1967. It seems quite appropriate for this latest theme of playtime, games and toys etc. I used to collect old childrens books for the illustrations at a place called Shude Hill, where they had a book market in the street. Indeed, it was the start of many years of collecting old books for collage material.

It's beautiful! Even that early, you already had a certain style to your work that you can still see today.

Even with an undercutting satirical element or two, the whole impression that it gives me is one of great charm. Thanks.

Thanks. Its a shame I didnt do more back then. I got seduced by the idea of being a painter.
